Weekend Warriors

By now your upcoming weekend calendar is probably bursting at its seams: activities to chauffer kids to, family obligations, shopping, endless hours of housework to catch up on, work to finish up and probably at least one party to get through without over-indulging.

You are definitely not alone in the effort to figure out how to be a party animal but not drink like a fish – or eat like a horse!

Here are some tips to get through a busy weekend and survive any social soiree:

1. Redefine Fast Food. Before you get in the car in the morning, pack an insulated lunch bag with a few hard boiled eggs, two apples, a couple of low fat cheese sticks and a bottle of water. These fast and easy solutions will save your pocketbook, and more importantly, it will save your heart and waistline from the fast food lane.

2. Make sure to eat before the party. This may seem counter-intuitive, especially since you’re going to have an endless array of yummy choices once you get there. But it’s definitely better to choose which party food to enjoy and in what amounts when you’re not on an empty stomach. You’ll be much less tempted to overeat – and who knows, you might have a better time using your mouth to chat it up with the other guests instead of grazing through the appetizers.

3. Arrive a few minutes late and plan to leave a few minutes early. Sometimes this is a life saver if you’re in the beginning of a healthy lifestyle change. Leaving right after “Happy Birthday” but before the cake gets passed around will literally save you hundreds of empty calories.

And remember to take that few extra minutes to look really great all weekend long. You have an opportunity to make every day a celebration – and celebrate the one and only YOU. You are the star of your life, so remember to set a great stage and leave some room for a few daydreams.
